A new report from the European Audiovisual Observatory has revealed that as of February, there are 3,088 on-demand services established in the E.U. and listed in the MAVISE database, most of which originate from the U.K.
The report, On-Demand Audiovisual Markets in the European Union, finds that catch-up TV services are the leading category, with 1,104 services listed. Branded channels of broadcasters on open platforms represent 711 of the services listed and VOD film services account for 409.
By country, the U.K. has the most on-demand services, with 682, followed by France (434 services) and Germany (330 services). There are 223 on-demand services established in the U.S. that target European countries that are currently available in Europe.
The report finds that there is a good amount of cross-border and international circulation happening for on-demand services. Around 60 percent of the VOD services available are established in at least one other country.
