World Summit Awards 2011

FanTrust President Catherine Warren is heading to the World Summit Award’s (WSA) Grand Jury Opening Conference in Hong Kong on April 8, 2011.

As a WSA executive board member, Warren has been asked to moderate a round table discussion with international mobile media experts.

“New Media goes mobile: successful products from the global App Tree” will look at new opportunities, new markets and new challenges for mobile apps in the context of the United Nations’ flagship program World Summit Award.

The panel will explore:

1. What makes a great mobile app

2. How to tie mobile content into other media formats, including television

3. Promoting mobile applications with PR and social media

4. If you build it will the come? Getting the fans out!

5. Mobile apps for social good: using mobile to make a difference

With 5.3 mobile subscribers, representing 77 per cent of the world’s population, and smartphone growth outstripping that of other phones, the app market is exploding. To date, the majority of smartphone users are in higher income brackets. But the good news is that mobile apps are increasingly accessible to more people. Smartphone prices continue to fall, apps are available on cheaper feature phones and next generation multiplatform apps downloadable  on the mobile Web offer greater app access for all. Today, pioneering companies and non-profits see the potential in applications for social good, serving underserved communities while taking their businesses and stakeholders to new heights.
