Todd & the Book of Pure Evil is a Canadian horror-comedy that combines the best parts of Degrassi HighTrailer Park Boys and the first third of David Cronenberg’s career. Set at Crowley High, a location that looks borrowed from The Breakfast Club, this Winnipeg-shot series touches on the occult, heavy metal, adolescent desires and a secret band of Satanists operating out of an old-age home.

“We’re dealing with subject matter that I really like, but you never think other people would really resonate with,” says Craig David Wallace, 35, a Vancouver native who created the series at the Canadian Film Centre in 2001. “I wanted to write about a heavy metal kid who makes a deal with the devil and, since he’s in high school, all he really wants is the hottest girl in the school.”

The series, which airs on Space and has its Season 1 finale on Wednesday, has received a development deal for a second season and is drumming up international buzz.
